| Sinewave:- Sinewave output oscillators are usually used in radio frequency applications where there should minimal components at other frequencies. |

Sine waveform |
|---|
| A sinewave oscillator output is usually specified to drive either
1 kohm and 15 pF or 50 ohms. A 50 ohm output can be used for driving
50 ohm transmission lines, coaxial cable or mixers. The outputs are usually
AC coupled.
The output amplitude is specified either as a peak to peak voltage, or a power in dBm. i.e. 10 times the log of the power ratio between the output and 1 mW. Signal at unwanted frequencies is of three forms:- Subs and harmonics. These are signals at exact fractions or multiples of the oscillator frequency. Their maximum amplitude is quoted in dBc, i.e. relative to the main output. Spurious signals. These are signals that are at other frequencies. They can move with supply voltage, control voltage or temperature. Also measured in dBc. Phase noise. This is a measure of how closely the frequency
stays where it should. It is measured in dBc/Hz at a particular frequency
difference from the desired frequency and is usually quoted at several
differences. |
